ADS Security provides local resources and one-stop shop approach for 800,000-square-foot facility.

As the parent company of well-known bike brands such as Schwinn, Mongoose and Kid Trax, Pacific Cycle’s products are in high demand.

In order to keep pace with customer expectations, the Madison, Wisconsin-based company recently opened its newest fulfillment center in Rincon, Georgia. From this centralized location, products can reach any customer within 2-3 business days, according to Brad Gandy, Vice President, North American Operations for Pacific Cycle.

He explained that the philosophy around fulfillment centers is changing from what used to be a focus on truck load, to more of a focus on getting product to the customer faster. “To compete, we need our inventory in the right spot,” Gandy said.

When the 800,000-square-foot Rincon facility opened, Pacific Cycle wanted a one-stop shop for their security needs. “Having a one-stop shop means fewer vendors, less confusion and better service,” Gandy expressed. “We didn’t want to piece-meal it out.”

That’s when they turned to ADS Security, a division of Vector Security, Inc. In addition to being able to meet Pacific Cycle’s security needs and timeline, ADS experts were sensitive to regulations around Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) and Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) certifications. As Pacific Cycle could be fined for violations against these regulations, vendor awareness around these practices was critical.

ADS did not disappoint. Within four months, the team had installed more than 100 cameras throughout the facility, as well as access control solutions to secure gates, loading docks and restricted areas. Remote access allows Pacific Cycle to be notified quickly of any issues that could affect supply chain as well as employee security and safety. Contact tracing for COVID-19 can be tied to badging within the access control systems.

“We did everything we could to get the job done including coordination with subcontractors and IT departments,” said Jim Purvis, South District Vice President for ADS Security. “I’m really proud of our team for meeting this challenge.”

While ADS offers national capabilities and reach, service is provided locally, allowing the company to meet Pacific Cycle’s 60 minute expectation on service calls. This swift response helps minimize operational disruptions at the fulfillment center.

“ADS did a great job addressing our pain points,” Gandy added. “They did everything that was asked of them and have met all our needs.”

The Rincon fulfillment center is expected to expand to more than 1 million square feet by 2023 with ADS continuing to provide security solutions as the facility grows. Pacific Cycle also operates distribution centers in Illinois, Southern California and Northern California. ADS Security provides some services for these facilities as well.
